About the SPSL

Pic 1

The SPSL was established in 1932 as a charity to promote the Great Highland Bagpipe in the London region. We run one of the UK's top bagpipe competitions,  The Bratach Gorm. We also hold regular classes and recitals for those with a passion for piping. Please take your time looking through our site, as well as the latest SPSL news, you'll find much more to interest you, including articles, photos and sound files.

Why should I join the SPSL?

We believe that piping is something that can be immensely rewarding, both to play and to hear, and that the best way to do so is in the company of other pipers. If you are a London based piper, or are learning, or just have an interest in piping, for a mere £20 a year we can offer a monthly gathering/recital, tuition, advice on bagpipe set up, the chance to enter our annual Member's Comp and to be part of the Bratach Gorm, the London event. Past recitals for member's have included performer's such as John MacDonald of Inverness, Willie Ross, Bob Brown, Bob Nicol, Donald MacLeod, Murray Henderson, Seumas MacNeill, Gordon Duncan, Robert Wallace, Willie McCallum, Gavin Stoddart, Gordon Walker, Chris Armstrong, and Jim McGillivary.
