How many of us make resolutions to improve our piping, find
a proper tutor, learn how to keep our bagpipe in top condition?
Ever wondered how to make good reeds or get the best out of
the ones you have?
How about Piobaireachd? Ever wished you had the chance to
work with someone with the knowledge to demystify this art form and is
also renowned as one of the world's best practitioners and teachers of
this great music?
....And let's not forget Ceol Beag - MSR's Hornpipes
& Jigs, retreats, slow airs etc.
Well, now the SPSL can offer you the opportunity to do all of this in
one weekend in a beautiful rural setting in Wiltshire. The venue will
be Urchfont Manor, a country house built in 1678, with great facilities
and superb food and wine. The event will run from 1800 hrs Friday 30th
May 2010 until Lunchtime Sunday 2nd May 2010. The tutors will
be Andrew Wright and Andrew Frater with proven SPSL tutors as support.
Andrew Wright needs no introduction to anyone in the piping
world. With his own tuition stemming from Peter MacLeod
senior, Donald MacLeod and R.B.Nicol and his accomplishments including
most of the major prizes available including the rare 'Double Gold
Medal' at Oban and Inverness in 1970.
Now a senior Judge & officer of the Piobaireachd Society, he is
much sought after as a teacher and we are extremely pleased to have
obtained his services.
Andrew Frater comes from a strong amateur piping family. He
is himself an accomplished amateur competitor having won the Archie
Kenneth Quaich among other awards. He is a brilliant
reedmaker with great skill and experience at setting up the bagpipe to
suit any player he works with.
The cost for the whole weekends' activities, including all meals
& accommodation as well as tuition, is in the range of £162 -
£216 ( the specific price depends on the type of room you book.
See www.urchfontmanor.co.uk
for details).
Why not use this weekend and these tutors to kick-start that playing
career you always wanted or just come along and enjoy the company of
fellow enthusiasts?
